How Ephemera works

No account. No setup. Just open the app and start writing. Here's what the experience looks like.

1

Open to a blank page

Ephemera launches straight to a clean writing surface. No login, no home screen, no decisions to make before you start. The cursor is already waiting.

Write whatever comes

Stream of consciousness. Half-sentences. Things you'd never say out loud. There are no prompts, no formatting tools, no word count — just you and the words.

The interface stays out of your way on purpose. The less you think about the app, the more honest the writing gets.

Release

When you're done, tap release. Your words dissolve from the screen. They're not archived, not synced, not saved to a server somewhere. They served their purpose the moment you wrote them.

That feeling of lightness afterward? That's the whole point.

Common questions

Is everything really deleted?

Your entries are not stored on any server. Ephemera processes text locally on your device and does not retain it after you release.

Do I need an account?

No. Ephemera has no accounts, no sign-ups, and no profiles. You open it and write.

What if I accidentally release something I wanted to keep?

Once released, the text is gone. This is by design — it's what allows you to write without the weight of permanence. Write knowing that letting go is part of the process.

Is this actually good for me?

Expressive writing has decades of research behind it. Writing about thoughts and feelings — even briefly — has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, and help with emotional processing. Ephemera just removes the barriers that keep people from doing it.

Is my data private?

Completely. Ephemera doesn't collect, transmit, or store any personal data. No analytics, no third-party services, no cloud sync. Your words stay on your device and nowhere else.
