Why we built Ephemera

Journaling is powerful. But most apps make it heavier than it needs to be — archives to maintain, streaks to protect, entries to perform for. We wanted something different.

1

The value is in the writing, not the keeping

Expressive writing reduces stress, clarifies thinking, and helps process difficult emotions. Those benefits come from the act of writing itself — not from rereading what you wrote six months later. Ephemera is built around that insight.

2

Permanence creates performance

The moment you know something will be saved, you start editing yourself. You write for a future reader — even if that reader is just you. When words aren't permanent, you can be honest in a way that's hard to be otherwise.

3

Friction is the enemy of flow

No prompts to choose from. No categories to file entries into. No word counts, mood trackers, or streak badges. Ephemera opens to a blank page because that's all stream of consciousness needs — space.

Letting go is a practice

We carry thoughts around longer than we need to. Ephemera gives them somewhere to land, and then lets them leave. It's not about suppressing or ignoring — it's about acknowledging a thought fully, then moving on lighter.

5

Your words are yours

Ephemera doesn't collect your data, doesn't sync to a cloud, and doesn't read what you write. Everything stays on your device. A journaling app should be the most private space you have.

Not everything is meant to last forever. Some things just need to be said.
